I’ve heard about and had in my studio more and more women describing their physical systems of racing heart, difficulty catching their breath, tight chest , tingling in face …. And actually using the words, “ I felt like I was going to die.”
Yet after a work up at the ER, they were told there is nothing physically wrong with them, and that they were likely experiencing a panic attack.
I nod my head in compassion, and talk about the biological effects of stress and anxiety on the body ( the nervous system).
So many people have been taught to believe that anxiety is just a mental issue and try to address it with “ top down therapy “ like counseling or psychotherapy. And yet these same people are ending up in the ER with symptoms of a heart attack.
